Training and Capacity Building

IHRDA is committed to realizing a continent where everyone has access to justice through national, African, and international human rights mechanisms. A critical challenge to the effectiveness of the African human rights protection system is a lack of awareness regarding its instruments, bodies, practice, and procedure.

To address this, IHRDA promotes respect for human rights by providing context-specific, relevant, timely and up-to-date, impact-driven training and capacity-building interventions. Our interventions support and strengthen human rights protection institutions, mechanisms and actors at both national and regional levels. Our training focuses on the African Human Rights System, covering normative standards, monitoring bodies, and their procedures. We specifically target actors in the African Human Rights System value chain, including lawyers, judges, prosecutors, civil society organizations, activists, human rights defenders, diplomats, journalists, and security services (police, prisons, and intelligence officials).
