On 15 May 2026, IHRDA hosted a one-day Capacity Building Workshop on Strategic Litigation and Constitutional Advocacy at its offices in Banjul in partnership with the Pan African Lawyers Union (PALU), the Gambia Bar Association, and Amnesty International. The workshop brought together Gambian lawyers and human rights advocates to strengthen practical skills in constitutional litigation, democratic accountability, and engagement with regional and continental human rights mechanisms, including the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights. Through expert presentations, case study discussions, and practical exercises, participants explored strategies for identifying threats to constitutional democracy, challenging unconstitutional actions, and advancing human rights protections through national, regional, and continental courts. The workshop also contributed to the launch of a Gambian Network of Constitutional Lawyering aimed at strengthening collaboration among legal practitioners engaged in constitutional advocacy and public interest litigation.
