This initiative, a component of the Waging Justice for Women Fellowship in partnership with the Clooney Foundation for Justice, aimed to empower girls by providing essential knowledge about human rights, with a specific emphasis on women’s rights and careers in public interest law. Through this initiative 30 female law students from the University of The Gambia (public university) and the International Open University (private university) took part in a workshop held at the IHRDA headquarters in Banjul in August 2025. The aim was to a) empower young girls through inspiring and motivating girls to engage with human rights issues and consider careers in law and public interest; b) share knowledge through providing valuable information about women’s rights, legal frameworks protecting the rights of women, and the importance of advocacy in advancement of the rights of women; and c) create role models by demonstrating that successful careers in law are attainable and to cultivate a space for future leaders to take up the baton in waging justice for women.
