Maïmouna Jallow is a seasoned communications specialist and creative professional with over 20 years of experience in media, strategic communications, and the arts. Her extensive background includes serving as a producer for the BBC World Service, where she covered African news and current affairs, and as a Regional Information Officer for Médecins Sans Frontières. She also served as Senior Programme Manager for the African Media Initiative, managing a $1M fund for Pan-African news innovation.
Maïmouna has a proven track record of developing and implementing high-level communication strategies for major international organizations. Most recently, she has served as a senior trainer for Tinkle Consultants and the African Women’s Development Fund, where she facilitated workshops on feminist communications and media relations. Her consultancy portfolio includes work for the YouTube Black Voices Fund, the Ford Foundation (Strengthening Human Rights Worldwide Program), and the Global Survivors Fund, as well as leading communication strategy documentation for conflict prevention organizations like CEWARN-IGAD.
In addition to her strategic work, Maïmouna is an accomplished artist and director who uses creative mediums to address social justice issues. In 2012 she co-founded Positively African, a Nairobi-based arts and media platform. She is the writer and director of the award-winning film Tales of the Accidental City and the author of several books, including the children’s book I’m the Colour of Honey.
Maïmouna is a 2024 fellow of the Future of Rights and Governance (FORGE) program at NYU School of Law Center for Human Rights and Global Justice, and holds an MA in African Studies from SOAS University of London and a BA in French and Portuguese from the University of Southampton.
