Introducing IHRDA’s New Brand and Website

Since its establishment in 1998, the Institute for Human Rights and Development in Africa (IHRDA) has grown into a leading Pan-African organisation advancing human rights across the continent. Through strategic legal advocacy and litigation, we have defended victims of human rights violations by providing pro bono legal representation before African regional and sub-regional courts and human rights bodies.

Beyond litigation, we have strengthened the African human rights system by building the capacity of lawyers, judges, journalists, diplomats, security officials, CSOs, and human rights defenders, equipping them with the skills to engage effectively with the African human rights system. Through our publications and databases, we have become a trusted source of information, helping to bridge critical knowledge gaps and promote access to justice and the effective use of the African human rights system.

A Renewed Identity

As a reflection of our almost 3 decades growth, IHRDA has undertaken a rebranding process. We are proud to unveil our refreshed visual identity and redesigned website—an important step in how we engage with communities, partners, and human rights defenders across Africa.

Our new website, www.ihrda.org, offers a modern, user-friendly and richer experience across all devices. It provides easier access to information and tools, while also showcasing a range of new and enhanced content. Visitors can explore monthly case spotlights on landmark decisions, follow developments through Implementation Watch, and access a simple searchable database of decided cases. A dedicated Active Cases section highlights ongoing litigation, while our widely used case law databases remain fully accessible. Users can also stay connected by subscribing to our newsletter for regular updates and insights. The new website also has multi-lingual access, with mobile friendly accessibility.

At the heart of our new identity remains the flame—symbolising Africa’s enduring passion for justice and our continued commitment to carrying the torch for human rights across the continent. Our colours have remained, but with more vibrancy.

As Maimouna Jallow, Communications and Publications Manager, reflects:
“Our refreshed brand reflects the strength, vibrancy, and unity of a Pan-African organisation committed to defending, informing, and educating on human rights. It captures not only who we are, but also the energy and collective commitment driving human rights work across Africa. It’s a symbol of our renewal, and growing commitment to the cause.

We invite you to explore the platform, engage with our resources, and join a growing community committed to advancing human rights across Africa.
