Challenging Sierra Leone discriminatory loitering laws at ECOWAS Court

Banjul, 4 May 2022: IHRDA is acting as Legal Counsel for AdvocAid Sierra Leone in a case recently filed at the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Court of Justice, seeking to overturn discriminatory loitering laws in Sierra Leone. The case seeks to compel the Government of Sierra Leone to repeal the petty offence of loitering as the current laws on loitering discriminate against the poor and marginalised in the society.

UPDATES:

29 April 2024: Court notifies parties of hearing scheduled for 2 May 2024.

2 May 2024: Court hears case on the merits and adjourns for judgement. Both parties were represented in Court.
