A IHRDA recebeu financiamento da Agência Sueca de Cooperação Internacional para o Desenvolvimento (SIDA) para implementar o Projeto Carta Africana da Criança (ACCP), um plano de ação conjunto de quatro anos (2010-2014) iniciado por cinco Organizações da Sociedade Civil (OSCs), com o objetivo de fortalecer a capacidade da Comitê Africano de Peritos em Direitos e Bem-Estar of the Child (ACERWC). The project also seeks to promote the effectiveness and awareness of the African Charter and of the Rights and Welfare of the Child (ACRWC) in the institutional, political and public arenas of the African Union.

The five Parceiros for this project are: Plan International, Save the Children Sweden, IHRDA, African Child Policy Forum (ACPF) and Community Law Centre (CLC) University of Western Cape. The project is funded by the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA).

Objetivos

Conforme mencionado acima, o ACCP visa fortalecer a capacidade da ACERWC e das organizações da sociedade civil para implementar a Carta Africana dos Direitos e Bem-Estar da Criança. Isso é feito por meio de:

(a) Directly supporting the work of the ACERWC;

(b) Trabalhar com o ACERWC para promover os direitos e o bem-estar das crianças nos ambientes interno e externo da UA e dos mecanismos de direitos humanos da UA;

(c) Strengthening the capacity of civil society to use the ACERWC and other AU children’s rights mechanisms.

O principal papel da IHRDA é facilitar a colaboração da ACRWC com a Comissão Africana dos Direitos Humanos e dos Povos e o Tribunal Africano dos Direitos Humanos e dos Povos, com o objetivo de tornar os direitos das crianças uma das prioridades desses órgãos e explorar maneiras pelas quais eles possam se complementar para a implementação eficaz da ACRWC.

IHRDA has been facilitating collaboration since the 49^o Sessão do ACmHPR. O papel do ACCP na proteção dos direitos das crianças em África foi elogiado pelo ACERWC e pelo Diretor do Departamento de Assuntos Sociais (DSA) da Comissão da União Africana (CUA).

Among others tasks performed by other project Parceiros, ACPF is tasked with the responsibility of updating information on all legal matters relating to children in Africa. ACPF has since created an Infohub website at (http://www.africanchildforum.org/site). There is an online resource (Case Law Analyser -CLA) created by IHRDA on the cases decided by the ACERWC available in English, French and Portuguese at (http://caselaw.ihrda.org/acerwc) and (http://caselaw.ihrda.org/pt/acerwc).
