Le 10^ème Le mois de décembre est célébré chaque année comme la Journée des droits de l’homme. C’est en commémoration de l’adoption par les Nations Unies (ONU) de la Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) in 1948.

La célébration est unique cette année car elle marque le 50^ème anniversary of the adoption of the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ICESCR) and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (PIDCP). Les deux traités complètent la DUDH et ont joué un rôle essentiel dans l’élaboration des droits humains internationaux tels que nous les connaissons aujourd’hui.

The theme for the 2015 Human Rights Day captioned, “Our Rights. Our Freedoms. Always.”, points to the universal and enduring nature of Human Rights. Human Rights belong to all êtres humains sans distinction de race, de nationalité, de sexe ou d’autres classifications sociales. Les droits de l'homme sont perpetual or never-ending, they continue from one generation to the next.

Alors que le Haut-Commissariat des Nations Unies aux droits de l'homme lance aujourd'hui une campagne d'un an pour mettre en lumière les droits des citoyens du monde, nous, à l'IHRDA, renouvelons notre croyance dans les droits inaliénables et inhérents de tous les Africains, et poursuivrons notre engagement à promouvoir l'efficacité du système africain des droits de l'homme en defending victims of Human Rights violations, educating and informing actors and stakeholders to support their efforts in the promotion and protection of Human Rights and Freedoms on the continent.
