Banjul, 2 October 2024: Dr. Musa Kika has joined the Institute for Human Rights and Development in Africa (IHRDA) as Executive Director.
Dr. Kika, who hails from Zimbabwe, holds a PhD in Law with a specialisation in Constitutional and Administrative Law from the University of Cape Town, South Africa, and an LLM specialising in Comparative Constitutional Law, International Human Rights Law and Administrative Law from Harvard Law School, United States. He has several years of experience in human rights, international development, as well as organisational management at regional and international levels.
At assumption of duties, Dr. Kika said, “I am delighted to be a part of the high impact and innovative interventions the IHRDA is pioneering in advancing the human rights agenda in Africa. My desire is to see us scale that up and expand our reach in ways that deliver tangible change to the human rights situation of African people.”
Dr. Kika previously served as Executive Director of the Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO Forum based in Harare. He has experience working with several human rights and law-based institutions in Zimbabwe, South Africa, Namibia and Botswana, and taught law at the University of Zimbabwe. Dr. Kika is a Harvard Law School Kaufman Public Service Fellow, a Ford Global Fellow, a Mandela Rhodes Scholar, and a recipient of multiple other recognitions for excellence in leadership.
Prior to joining IHRDA, Dr. Kika served as Head of Office (Headquarters) and Director of External Relations for the Institute for Integrated Transitions based in Barcelona, Spain.
