The Vance Center seeks to hire a part-time consultant for a period of two years. The consultant, based in Nairobi, Kenya, will work with the Human Rights and Access to Justice Program of the Vance Center and Vance Center partner organization in Kenya, CleanStart, on a new project to study the causes, conditions and consequences of women incarceration in Kenya. The Consultant will be responsible for assisting and guiding CleanStart through the pilot project. He or she will play a key role in the planning and implementation of the research, the drafting of the final report and the planning and execution of activities, including trainings, to launch the report. The consultant will also be responsible for providing regular updates, including trainings, via an online platform to other women prisoners’ advocates who participated in the earlier conference.
Among other criteria, the ideal candidate should:
- Have a degree in social science, law, political science or other related field. Master’s degree preferred.
- Have 3+ year experience in conducting scientific research including surveys, and quantitative and qualitative data analysis in a related field.
- Have experience working on women incarceration, women’s rights or prisoners’ rights in Kenya, or the Global South generally, highly desirable.
- Have experience working in the Global South with civil society and government required.
- Be fluent in English.
