IHRDA, on 28 April 2015, did a presentation of its on-going efforts to defend the rights of women in Africa, at the Litigating Women’s Rights Workshop organized in London, UK, by Oxfam.
Intervening on behalf of IHRDA, Director of Programs, Mr Gaye Sowe, expounded impressively on Litigating Women’s Rights before the ECOWAS Court.
Mr Sowe equally presented the IHRDA online Case-law Analyser (www.caselaw.ihrda.org) which participants rated fascinating.
Director of ARC, Gillian Higgins, Barrister at 9 Bedford Row International London, who has used the website, described it as ‘a practical tool facilitating access to justice for lawyers and individuals alike who are seeking to understand human rights in action’.
The workshop brought together lawyers and NGOs from various continents to examine some of the practical challenges for strategic litigation on women’s rights. Apart from the IHRDA presentation, experts also highlighted efforts in defence of women’s rights in other parts of Africa and in the Middle East.
